The Ördögárok Vineyard
Ördögárok is a natural basin situated between Szársomlyó and the Villány Mountains. It is considered one of the warmest vineyard areas in the Villány Wine Region and is known for its exceptional soil conditions. The underlying limestone and dolomite bedrock is mixed with limestone and Jurassic limestone.
During the summer, warm, humid air becomes trapped in the valley, creating a unique microclimate that is highly favourable for grape growing.
The high-quality grapes harvested in the Ördögárok vineyard, as well as the wines made from them, are highly valued by local winemakers and are considered among their finest wines.
Kőkereszt – The Stone Cross
A stone cross stands at one of the highest points of the vineyard, offering a fantastic panoramic view. From here, you can see the entire Ördögárok vineyard, while the majestic Szársomlyó Mountain rises beyond the vineyard’s horizon.
The Legend of the Devil-Ploughed Mountain
The name of the vineyard is believed to originate from one of the region’s best-known folk legends.
According to the story, the Devil had to plough the rocky mountain before dawn in order to win the hand of Harka, the old woman’s daughter. The mountain in the legend is believed to be Szársomlyó, formerly known as Harsányi-hegy.
One of the furrows left behind by the Devil may have been the Ördögárok basin itself – at least, if the legend is to be believed…
